History of Camp Judaea
In 1960, a group of people dedicated to Israel and its ideals, a group of people committed to Judaism and to educating children about their religion and culture, struggled to build the foundations of what is now Camp Judaea. The vision of Lila Reisman, Herman Popkin, and Malcolm Minsk is the reason why Camp Judaea is here today. We currently carry on in the spirit and the goals with which they began.

In the mid 1950's, what is now Camp Judaea was a two-week program at Camp Blue Star. In 1961, we acquired our own land in Hendersonville. For a short time Camp Judaea was jointly owned by the ZOA, the Zionist Organization of America and Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America.

Today we are owned by the six Southern regions of Hadassah and are part of Hadassah's nationwide Zionist youth movement, Young Judaea. Throughout our history we have instilled a strong Jewish identity and love for Israel in generations of children and young adults.

Camp Judaea fosters a unique loyalty in its campers; so as one generation grows up, they become the counselors and staff for the incoming generation, providing an unbroken chain of Jewish education, pride, and Zionism.
