Week Three – Second Session Update

Shabbat Shalom Camp Judaea family and friends:

Click here to enjoy the Week 3 edition of CJ News video highlights:

The last full week of camp has ended and we are ready to bring in the final days of the summer. It saddens us to know that Camp Judaea will be empty for next Shabbat. This last week has been non-stop. We were able to team up with a neighboring Jewish special needs camp to take our Bogrim chanichim to lead educational activities with their campers. We also had our Day Trips and Overnights! But the highlight of the week was when the Honorable Barbara Volt, Mayor of Hendersonville, presented us with a commendation for our conservation achievements at camp and we broke Bikkurim (color war). Our theme was “Israeli Firsts”. We had White Golda Meir, the first female Prime Minister, Green Ben Gurion, the first Prime Minister, Red Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut, and Blue Hanna Senesh, the first female paratrooper. The day harvested all of the knowledge of the campers into a powerful day of sportsmanship, teamwork, and cheering! A few updates  from the edot themselves:

Offarim:

This week was very exciting and action-packed! Our campers wrote expectation letters to their future self to be handed out when they’re in Bogrim and enjoyed a Bogie carnival hosted by their BOs. Our campers had an awesome time on our day trip to Tweetsie Railroad on Tuesday! Today Offarim and Bogrim will be working hard on hosting a beautiful B.O. Kabbalat Shabbat filled with songs, dancing, and plays. As this week comes to a close, we are looking forward to the coming week to those extra special moments, to that last splash at the pool, and that one final Offie nut cheer!

Shabbat Shalom,

Cyleena Rodriguez

Oranim:

Shabbat Shalom! As we conclude our last full week in camp and welcome in Shabbat, we are able to think back to all the wonderful moments that we’ve shared. We have had the chance to write letters to Israeli soldiers while learning about Yom Ha’atzmaut and Yom Hazikaron, bake hamantaschen for Purim, and show off our harvested fruits, celebrating Lag B’Omer. We also went on an incredible day trip to Dollywood, where the campers rode roller coasters and played arcade games. Yesterday during Bikkurim (color war) it was amazing seeing everyone have so much fun and pride on their colors, while learning about Jewish and Israeli heroes. We are all looking forward to our final days at camp!

Shabbat Shalom!

Sayarim:

Sayarim has had an amazing last full week of camp. During Peulah Eda, we learned about Israeli heroes and Ilan Ramon. We also started planning our service project and had a day trip to Dollywood! The chanichim had a cake decorating competition to see who could make the best superhero themed cake and also enjoyed competing against each other in Bikkurim. As we embrace the last week, we look at how we can take the values we learned at camp and incorporate it into our everyday life at home!

Shabbat Shalom!

Rachel Cohen

Tsofim:

As our last full week of camp draws to a close, we are looking back upon all that this week had in store for us.  From the overnight, to our trip to Sliding Rock, to the Scouts Caravan and Bikkurim, this week has truly been full of excitement!  We have a few very long days of camp left and we are all making sure that these last days of the session are memorable and are full of enough joy to last all of the kids until next summer.  For the last time this summer, I wish you and your family a Shabbat Shalom.

Samuel Morse

Kesher:

Shabbat shalom! We’ve had a wonderfully chaotic week here at CJ! We had our hatzagah (play) which was “Eddy Pan and the Lost Menches” and was the best hatzagah that CJ has ever seen! After that, we had our fantastic overnight where we slept under the beautiful starry sky only to come back to a great break of Bikkurim (color war)! This week has been fantastic and we are ready to relax and have fun during our final Shabbat of kayitz (summer) 2014. Although we leave in just a few days, we are trying to squeeze every last drop of summer magic out of this session! See you soon, but not too soon!
Shabbat shalom!
Eddy Allen

Bogrim:

Shabbat Shalom from the Bogrim family to yours! This week was by far Bogrim’s busiest and most exciting week. We got to turn our dreams into reality this week as Bogrim led an incredible program at Camp Living Wonders for Jewish special needs campers! Bogrim also led our own youngest edot in an interactive and peer led Bogie Carnival! To continue on the trend of Bogrim leading camp, they had an opportunity to shine on each of the Bikkurim teams! Finally, this evening the Bogies will be leading the Kabbalah Shabbat service alongside their Offie buddies as they enter their final Shabbat this Bogrim session. Our campers are truly learning how to be a dugma (example) for the rest of camp.

Shabbat Shalom!

Sarah Fine

Chalutzim:
The Chanichim are back and smelling better than ever! With just one night of rest, bikkurim came and was a great success as always. Today before Shabbat begins, we had the Israeli scout caravan here to perform in front of all of camp! I am sure all of Chalutzim cannot wait for a relaxed Shabbat as their final days at CJ come to a spectacular end.

Shabbat shalom!

We concluded this week of excitement with a special show from the Tzofim Friendship Caravan and look forward to a very relaxing Shabbat led by our BO campers (Bogrim/Offarim). As we light the candles, we will jump into the new week full of seizing every moment and start to count down the Shabbats until 2nd session 2015. We look forward to seeing all of you next week.

Shabbat Shalom!
